RIVER PAC Minor Party Survey
Advocating for Inclusive Election Reform in Rhode Island

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey. Your responses will help us understand your organization's stance on important election reform issues. If our objectives align in this area, we will ask your organization to join RIVER PAC. We encourage you to visit our website, riverpac.org, to learn more about this important legislation.

1. Lowering the Party Status Threshold
Currently, a political party in Rhode Island must receive at least 5% of the vote in a statewide election to be officially recognized. Our proposed legislation seeks to lower this threshold to 2%, making it easier for smaller parties to gain recognition.

2. Expanding Eligible Races for Party Status
Currently, a party can only earn official status through Presidential or Gubernatorial elections. Our proposed legislation expands the eligible races to include all statewide and federal elections, providing more opportunities for parties to gain recognition.

3. Recognizing Party Status through Elected Officials
Our proposed legislation creates a pathway for parties to maintain recognition if they have an elected official serving in a partisan position, even if they do not meet the vote threshold. This allows parties with active elected officials to maintain their status.

4. Inclusivity and Diversity in Rhode Island Politics
Our proposal aims to make the political process in Rhode Island more inclusive by lowering barriers for smaller parties to gain official recognition.
